About US

On Stage was established in 2002 by Eve Redgrave providing classes in singing, dance and drama at our St.Ives and Histon venues. In 2013 we launched our Dance Branch and have not looked back since! As the school progressed Hannah Sharman took over the business in 2015 adding her vast skills and knowledge in all aspects of dance and performing arts.

Our Theatre Schools are held at Wyton on the Hill on Saturday mornings and Histon and Impington on Saturday afternoons.
Theatre students take part in an hour of drama, dance and singing whilst the Dance Branch students take part in ISTD modern and ballet classes along with Acro in the Acrobatic Arts syllabus and non-syllabus classes for children as well as adults.
“Our aim is to provide the students with a well rounded training in the performing arts whilst in a fun friendly environment. Our teaching methods are designed to build confidence in our pupils and we are always available to advise the students whatever the topic.”
On Stage staff have been carefully picked for their experience in performing and teaching and hold either ISTD Dance Teaching Qualifications or a Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre this is also part of the reason they have remained a small company despite the interest we have received. With an excellent team who really enjoy working together and have no wish to let standards slide by expanding too much.

Staff are fully DBS checked, hold a valid first aid certificate and we have our own child protection policy (a copy of which is available in the tabs at the top of the page) public liability insurances are also in place.

Hannah

Whilst taking her GCSE and A Level exams she got the opportunity to perform at Sadlers Wells, Disney Land Paris and Port Aventura amongst many other places. Hannah is thrilled at the opportunity of becoming Principal of On Stage YTS and has many exciting things planned for the future. She wants to thank everyone for their continued support and hopes you are all as excited as she is

Belinda

Dance & Acro Teacher

I have danced from the age of three years, training under The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance. Towards the end of my training I started teaching dance classes in my village which then expanded and progressed to me opening my own successful dance school which I ran for twelve years. I have also been a teacher at The Octagon Studios for ten years in conjunction with running my own school.
I teach Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Lyrical Dance and have recently gained my certification In Acrobatic Arts. I am experienced in choreography and staging shows

Megan

Student Teacher

I came to Onstage as a shy 8 year old with very little self-esteem. As time has gone on my confidence has grown and I’m definitely not shy anymore!
I have been at On Stage for 8 years and enjoy it immensely.
I have learnt all different types of Dance, such as Hip Hop, Contemporary and Jazz. We do different types of Drama including Serious, Slap Stick, Dry Humour and Improvisation. I am also training to improve my singing skills.
I like that everything is varied and that there’s always something new to do or learn.
Outside of On Stage, I was recently involved in the production “Hairspray” as a Dancer/Singer.
I also do ISTD Modern and in March 2016 I passed my Grade 3 Modern exam-I’m currently working towards my Grade 4.
I did my work experience at On Stage and I enjoyed it tremendously: I got to see some of the responsibilities of running a Drama, Dancing and Singing School and I want to be a part of it. I really love Drama and in the future want to continue it as Career. The Teachers are always supportive of not only my learning but also my outside hobbies. As such, working alongside the Teachers at On Stage and with their continued support and help I hope to advance my own skills and eventually reach my ambitions.

F.A.Q.

What if my child doesn't enjoy all elements of the Theatre Branch classes?

We offer a trial to all new students so that they can try Drama, Dance and Singing and what’s even better is it is HALF PRICE at only £15. If they decide it’s not for them then you are under no obligation to stay.

What happens if my child doesn’t know anyone?
We always buddy new students up with students that will be in their group or class and have been with us for a little while, that way they can ask as many questions as they like. They will never be on their own as we are a super friendly performing family and all students integrate with each other during break times.
Are you classes just for girls?

We welcome both boys and girls and have lots of boys who love our classes. We encourage everyone to try everything and urge them all that if they are not happy in a subject that they talk to us so that we can help to resolve any issues. It’s great if they can bring a friend along to take the trial with them.

I don’t know what my child should wear?

You will be advised what to wear once we know which class you would like to trial. Once you have signed up to our classes we do have a uniform of an OSPA t-shirt, black bottoms and black jazz shoes for our Saturday classes and leotard and bottoms for our Dance Branch classes. There will be a merchandise form that comes in you end of trial pack where you can purchase t-shirts, hoodies and much more!

Does my child have to take exams?

There is no pressure to take any exams but the majority of our students do as they provide a goal and reward for all of their hard work. Your teacher will advise you when your child is ready for any exams.

Why are the Theatre Branch classes 3 hours?

3 hours can seem like a long time, especially if your little one is just starting school but we give the students plenty of breaks for a drink, snack and the toilet. In our Group 1 class which has our youngest students, the pace is often slower so that they don’t get too tired. The students that start young really benefit in the long term and we see huge progression. The trial is a great time to see how they get on and if it is too much then maybe they could try again in a term or so?

What if my child doesn’t like Singing/Dancing/Acting

Our mission it to help create well rounded performers for the wider world which is why we offer all 3 disciplines at our Theatre Branches and seperate dance classes at our Dance Branch. We find that even those that don’t want to go into the performing world as a career gain so much from our classes; confidence, creativity, perseverance, resilience and team work to name but a few. If it’s not for them after the trial then we do understand.

Do I need to attend every class?

Your child does need to attend every class as we have so many exciting things to teach in all classes them that when they miss a lesson then it makes it hard to catch up and we don’t want any of our students to feel out of place or that they’re not sure what is going on. Any time off for illness must be communicated with your teacher so that we can make sure that in the next lesson anything missed is recapped.

What happens if my child can’t sing?

Not all children can to start off with and this isn’t an issue. We are here to help and guide them to becoming confident in all 3 genres and by learning the technique and exercises they will become a stronger singer as they grow with us.

What age do you take students from?

We have classes from 4 years old right up to adults so anyone is welcome.

What Our Parents are Saying

I can’t recommend On Stage Performing Arts enough, my daughter has been going for the past 4 1/2 years she sees it as her second family. The teachers are brilliant and she has made some life long friends. Her confidence has had a massive boost and each year she progresses more and more! Thank you Hannah & team your doing a fabulous job! xx – Tiffany

Ruby has been attending On Stage Performing Arts School for nearly three years now, starting when she was 5 years old. She has loved it right from the start and the school has been instrumental in growing her confidence not only while there but also in school.
Its great for the children to mix with all ages and also make other friends outside of their usual friendship groups – growing strong friendships!! The older students are great with the younger children too.
The children can go at their own pace with their development in all areas of the school and it’s nice to know that they are not asked to do anything they are uncomfortable with – its there for them to do if they want it but no pressure!!
I hope that Ruby will continue to attend the school right up until she is too old to go!! – Michelle

My daughter loves her time at On Stage and can’t wait for the next Saturday to be here! I have seen her self-confidence grow and grow. Not only has her ability in singing, acting and dance improved but she has made wonderful new friends. – Maree

Having joined when my girls were 8, we were worried they’d struggle or not fit in with existing members who’d have been going for a couple of years – but our worries were unfounded. Both were made to feel very welcome and loved everything, and everyone, straight away.
Their confidence has grown so much in under a year and they love learning dance routines and new songs.
Would recommend On Stage to everyone – Emily
